還有一點就是,香港人通常說「污糟嘢」來代表「鬼魂」;
在CantoneseClass101.com留言,和我們分享吧。

Hi Mari-Lynn,

Usually the joss paper and paper clothings are to be burnt at the graves, or sometimes in a temple. In Hong Kong, some people also burn them on the side of the road in a tin bucket. Better check with the fire regulations in your city before burning

Where are the paper items burned? I went to my local Buddhist shop and purchased a set of clothes for my Grandmother and Grandfather---but I live in an apartment building. This is the first time I have heard of this tradition, so I thought it would be good to let them know I'm thinking about them. The lady at the shop said to burn them in the morning and the afternoon after praying with the incense.

Hi Jason,

Haha, the Hong Kong movie industry also knows how much this creep people out, so they made a lot of movies out of it. Such as The Eye (2002), which was the origin of the 2008 Hollywood movie with the same title.

Hi Clayton Davis,

Thanks for sharing!

You're right, Halloween is also a festival about ghosts, and I bet children loves it. The Chinese Ghost Festival, however, is not so popular among kids, nor adults :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

So will you be dressing up for Halloween this year?:smiling_imp:
