Hello Grace,

You are right that ๅŽป็Žฉ(heoi3 waan2) can also mean to travel somewhere. ๐Ÿ‘

You are absolutely right that the measure word for movies is ๅฅ—(tou3).

This โ€˜heoi3 waan2โ€™ that you said meant โ€˜hanging outโ€™, can it also mean to travel somewhere? Like maybe to another country to visit?

Also, I thought the measure word for movies was โ€˜tou3โ€™?

Hello Peter,

I think you can use either one and it is acceptable to interchangeably use ๅ‘ขๆŽ’(ni1 paai4) or ๅ‘ขๆŽ’(ni1 paai2). ?

Believe it or not... when one sees this paai4/2 with a choice of tones 4 or 2, it's not as comprehensible as you might think... even native speakers have problems handling that. I just use the first one 4 and ignore the 2.

Could you give me a little explanation? Is it tone sandhi?

ๅ‘ขๆŽ’ๅŽป้‚Šๅบฆ็Žฉๅ‘€? (ni1 paai4/2 heoi3 bin1 dou6 waan2 aa3?)

ๅ‘ขๆŽ’ๅŽป้‚Šๅบฆ่’ฒๅ‘€? (ni1 paai4/2 heoi3 bin1 dou6 pou4 aa3?)

Thank you

Hello Peter,

Thank you so much for your encouragement!

Hanging out in Cantonese is ๅŽป็Žฉ( heoi3 waan2 ) or ๅŽป่’ฒ( heoi3 pou4 ).

Where have you been hanging out recently?

ๅ‘ขๆŽ’ๅŽป้‚Šๅบฆ็Žฉๅ‘€? (ni1 paai4/2 heoi3 bin1 dou6 waan2 aa3?)

ๅ‘ขๆŽ’ๅŽป้‚Šๅบฆ่’ฒๅ‘€? (ni1 paai4/2 heoi3 bin1 dou6 pou4 aa3?)
