John: Hi everyone, and welcome back to CantoneseClass101.com. This is Business Cantonese for Beginners Season 1 Lesson 19 - Presenting a New Product in Hong Kong. John here.
Siuling: 大家好!(daai6 gaa1 hou2!) I'm Siuling.
John: In this lesson, you’ll learn how to describe a product. The conversation takes place at an office.
Siuling: It's between Tom and John.
John: The speakers are employees, therefore, they will speak formal Cantonese. Okay, let's listen to the conversation.

John: What are the most important industries in Hong Kong?
Siuling: Financial services, logistics, tourism, and professional services.
John: These are known as the Four Key Industries in the Hong Kong economy.
Siuling: Financial services are the most famous, I think. That covers banking, insurance, and stocks.
John: Logistics covers freight transport, storage, postal services, and courier services.
Siuling: Tourism includes the retail trade, hotel business, travel agencies, and transportation.
John: Professional services include legal, accounting, architecture, and advertising.
Siuling: Hong Kong is famous for its free trade, low tax, and minimum government interference.
John: The strong links it has with the Chinese mainland and the wider Asia Pacific region are a highlight, too.
Siuling: Yes, that’s something else Hong Kong is famous for.

John: Okay, what's the next word?
Siuling: 主要營養成份(zyu2 jiu3 jing4 joeng5 sing4 fan6)
John: meaning "primary nutrients."
John: What can you tell us about this, Siuling?
Siuling: 主要(zyu2 jiu3) means "main." Next is 營養(jing4 joeng5).
John: This means "nutrition." The final part means "ingredient, component, part."
Siuling: Yes, that’s 成份(sing4 fan6). If you want to know the main ingredient in a food, look on the label for 主要營養成份(zyu2 jiu3 jing4 joeng5 sing4 fan6).
John: Another useful word is "not included."
Siuling: That is 不含(bat1 ham4).
John: Can you give us an example using this phrase?
Siuling: Sure. For example, you can say... 生產商要註明食品嘅主要營養成份。(sang1 caan2 soeng1 jiu3 zyu3 ming4 sik6 ban2 ge3 zyu2 jiu3 jing4 joeng5 sing4 fan6.)
John: ... which means "The manufacturer has to list the primary nutrients of the food product."

John: Let’s start by looking at how to welcome customers.
Siuling: The phrase you’ll hear the most is 歡迎光臨!(fun1 jing4 gwong1 lam4!)
John: "Welcome!" You’ll hear this when entering a store in Hong Kong. Can you use this when making a business presentation?
Siuling: You need to modify it a little.
John: Here are three examples that you can use.
Siuling: 歡迎大家今日嘅嚟臨。(fun1 jing4 daai6 gaa1 gam1 jat6 ge3 lei4 lam4.)
John: "Welcome, thank you for coming today."
Siuling: 歡迎同多謝大家嚟到呢度。(fun1 jing4 tung4 do1 ze6 daai6 gaa1 lei4 dou3 ni1 dou6.)
John: "Welcome and thank you for coming."
Siuling: 好高興大家嘅出席。(hou2 gou1 hing1 daai6 gaa1 ge3 ceot1 zik6.)
John: "I am pleased about your attendance." Now, let’s move onto describing the product.
Siuling: Adjectives are the easiest way to do this.
John: Siuling, can you tell us some adjectives that we can use?
Siuling: Sure! 輕身(heng1 san1)
John: "light"
Siuling: 重 (cung5)
John: "heavy"
Siuling: 鮮艷 (sin1 jim6)
John: "vibrant, vivid"
