| In the last two lessons we learned how to go shopping. Did you practice at home? |
| In this lesson, we're going to learn other useful tips to talk about your schedule - for example, if a friend asks you "What are you doing this weekend?" |
| Let’s start! |
| To ask someone "What are you doing this weekend?", you say: |
| gaam1 go3 lai5 baai6 luk6 jat6 jau5 me1 zou6 aa3? |
| [slowly] gaam1 go3 lai5 baai6 luk6 jat6 jau5 me1 zou6 aa3? |
| Let’s break it down. |
| gaam1 go3 → is "this” |
| lai5 baai6 luk6 jat6 → is "saturday and sunday". |
| Literally, “the Saturday and Sunday of this week” |
| Since it is common to use English words in Cantonese, you can also say gaam1 go3 weekend, which is much easier. |
| Then jau5 me1 zou6 aa3? → means "anything to do?” |
| Let’s break it down. |
| jau5 is “to have” |
| me1 is “what” |
| zou6 is “to do” |
| aa3 is a question particle |
| altogether we have jau5 me1 zou6 aa3? |
| [slowly] jau5 me1 zou6 aa3? |
| What if you’re not asking about this weekend? |
| Asking about a different time period is as easy as replacing gam1 go3 lai5 baai6 luk6 jat6. |
| Tomorrow is ting1 jat6. So you can also say ting1 jat6 jau5 me1 zou6 aa3? “What are you doing tomorrow?” |
| Or, ou could also put in any weekday, like lai5 baai6 jat1 "Monday" or lai5 baai6 ng5, which is "Friday". |
| lai5 baai6 jat1 jau5 me1 zou6 aa3? |
| lai5 baai6 ng5 jau5 me1 zou6 aa3? |
| So now, if someone asks *you* ting1 jat6 jau5 me1 zou6 aa3? or "What are you doing tomorrow?", how can you answer? |
| Here's an example: ngo5 heoi3 gung1 jyun2. "I'm going to the park." |
| ngo5 heoi3 means "I go", and gung1 jyun2 means "park". Feel free to replace "park" with any other location! |

| The phrase jau5 me1 zou6 aa3?, also means "is there anything to do?” |
| So next time when you’re bored and looking for something to do, try asking your friends: |
