Hello Bjorn,

Thanks for your reply! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Actually, it's a special case. The language used in a news broadcast is relatively formal, so sometimes you can hear the written form. It definitely helps understand a news broadcast if you learn the written form too. ๐Ÿ‘ I think both are quite similar, but it may be hard for learners to memorize two forms in the beginning.

Moreover, we have a brief video about this topic:

Hi Ada!

Thank you for the answer! So they speak written language on the weather forecast, interesting. If I want to learn to understand a news broadcast in Cantonese, do I have to learn the written form of the language ? How different is it from the spoken form, just a few words that are different, or would it be like learning a completely different language ?

Hi Bjorn,

Thanks for your questions.

Both ไธ‹ๆ™ (haa6 zau3) and ไธ‹ๅˆ (haa6 ng5) mean "afternoon", but the former is spoken form, while the latter is written form.

The difference between ๆœๆ—ฉ (ziu1 zou2) and ๆ—ฉไธŠ (zou2 soeng6) is similar. They mean "morning", but the former is spoken form, while the latter is written form. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hello,

What is the difference between ไธ‹ๆ™ and ไธ‹ๅˆ ? Same question for the difference between ๆ—ฉไธŠ and ๆœๆ—ฉ ?
