Hi Tj,

Thanks for your question. ๐Ÿ‘

Do you mean this sentence "ไธ€ๅ€‹ๅฅณไบบๅ–บๅบฆๅ•็ทŠๆ›ธๅบ—ๅบ—ๅ“กไธ€ๅ•ฒๅ˜ขใ€‚ (jat1 go3 neoi5 jan2 hai2 dou6 man6 gan2 syu1 dim3 dim3 jyun4 jat1 di1 je5.)"?

It is because ๆ›ธๅบ— (syu1 dim3) ~ book store and ๅบ—ๅ“ก (dim3 jyun4) ~ staff.

One another note, after listening to this a few times, why does Olivia say ๅบ— two times?

After digging extensively to find this content, I will admit there are words that weren't taught in the whole first unit, but I'm not going to let that stop me. I'm about halfway through two and I'm ready for some listening comprehension. If it means I have to learn new words along the way: hit me with it! ^.^

Love you CC101

Hi Winston,

Thanks for posting. I am sorry that this is already the series for the absolute beginner, which refers to level 1. I recommend you to listen the conversations repeatedly until you can fully understand the content. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This was a bit more advanced than what I was expecting. Are there some conversations that are easier.

Hi Ash,

Thanks for your question.

Your understanding, the pronunciation ๅฅณไบบ = neoi5 jan2, is correct. The syllable-initial position [n-] > [l-] is one of the common conditions among the so-called "lazy sounds". ๐Ÿ˜‰

You can find more details about "lazy sounds" in this page.

I have heard ๅฅณไบบ neoi5 jan2 pronounced as leoi5 jan2 by HK speakers. The initial n sound changes to an l sound. Could you explain why please? My HK friends did not undersatnd when I said neoi yan.๐Ÿ˜ž
