Kanxi Radicals

Postby OolongTea » March 11th, 2018 3:43 pm

Hi,

I am going over your list of Kanji radicals and the jyutping pronunciation associated with them.
https://www.cantoneseclass101.com/chinese-radicals/

I'm not 100% sure but sometimes the list differs from what I found from other sources.
For the following radicals, I have listed the jyutping according to my sources.
I'm not sure which one is correct now, can you elaborate?
I'm fairly certain that Radical 135 should be sit3 and not sik3 and that radical 146 is sai1 and not aa3.

Or perhaps you can tell me wrong?

Many thanks,

Hi OolongTea,

Thank you very much for your input!
To be honest, we hardly ever say those radicals out, and nowadays with electronic dictionaries, I doubt schools focus on radicals as much as they used to.
Visually they are helpful for people learning to write Chinese characters, but the pronunciation doesn't play a part as much.
With that being said, I love how earnest you are about this, such a great student! :D

You're probably right on this one: radical 135, 舌, might be sit3 instead of sik3.
But for radical 146, 西, although its pronunciation is sai1 normally, when we refer it as a radical (usually when it shows up as 襾 or 覀) it's called aa3.
This is what I remember from elementary school hahaha~
