Typing in Cantonese on Linux?

Postby sheffieldmuse12704 » October 9th, 2013 12:42 am

Does anyone else here use Ubuntu? I'm having trouble typing in Cantonese. I have all the ibus stuff installed and there are 2 input methods available for Cantonese (jyutping & Cantonese). However, when I want to type something such as "gwong dung wa", none of the needed characters are actually displayed. When I type gwong, the only available characters are (光, 胱, 桄). Perhaps I can check on the Ubuntu forums to see if there is indeed a way to fix this. Anyway, the site is awesome! I might subscribe to a few more languages in the future. Thanks for reading!

Regarding typing in Cantonese, sorry that I'm not familiar with the Ubuntu operating system, but you can check out this new Google Input Tools (http://youtu.be/Vwp5TwYGsnw), hope it's helpful for you!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the prompt reply Olivia. I just found a program for Linux that works fairly well. It's called CantoInput. Now I can type 廣東話 with no problem.
