Cantonese Survival phrases, lesson 44. Admissions. There is so much to do and see in Hong Kong and there are times when access to some must see places requires an admission ticket. So today, we will look at buying tickets. In Hong Kong, ticket is 飛 (fei1). let’s hear it one more time 飛 (fei1). 飛 (fei1) is used mostly in spoken Cantonese while 票(piu3) is used in written Cantonese. Let’s hear it again 票(piu3), 票(piu3). It also means tickets. Let’s hear both of the words again 飛 (fei1) ticket 票(piu3) ticket. Admission ticket is 門票(mun4 piu3), 門票(mun4 piu3). It literally translates as gate ticket 門票(mun4 piu3). In an earlier lesson, we’ve covered subway ticket 地鐵飛(dei6 tit3 fei1) subway ticket 地鐵飛(dei6 tit3 fei1) and we also taught train ticket 火車飛(fo2 ce1 fei1) train ticket 火車飛(fo2 ce1 fei1). Now do you remember how to say how much is the subway ticket 地鐵飛幾錢?(dei6 tit3 fei1 gei2 cin2). How much is the subway ticket? 地鐵飛幾錢?(dei6 tit3 fei1 gei2 cin2). Now what about how much is the admission ticket 門票幾錢?(mun4 piu3 gei2 cin2) Let’s hear it again. 門票幾錢?(mun4 piu3 gei2 cin2) We simply replace the word 地鐵飛(dei6 tit3 fei1) with 門票(mun4 piu3). So to ask how much is the admission ticket is 門票幾錢?(mun4 piu3 gei2 cin2). Now let’s learn how to say one ticket please. 一張飛,唔該(jat1 zoeng1 fei1, m4 goi1) Let’s break it down by syllable. 一張 飛,唔 該(jat1 zoeng1 fei1, m4 goi1) Now let’s hear it again. 一張飛,唔該(jat1 zoeng1 fei1, m4 goi1) The first word 一(jat1) means one 一(jat1) one and next you have 張(zoeng1) which is the measure word for ticket 張(zoeng1). 一張(jat1 zoeng1) A piece of 兩張(loeng3 zoeng1) two pieces of and it’s followed by 飛 (fei1) or ticket, 飛 (fei1) ticket. 一張飛(jat1 zoeng1 fei1) One ticket 兩張飛(loeng3 zoeng1 fei1) two tickets. Let me give you a quick test. Now the last one, how do you say 10 subway tickets. 十張地鐵飛(sap6 zoeng1 dei6 tit3 fei1) Now let’s hear it one more time. 十張地鐵飛(sap6 zoeng1 dei6 tit3 fei1) Very often, you may be asked to show your tickets not only at the entrance. So keep these admissions with you until you leave the place you are visiting. They will ask you 門票,唔該(mun4 piu3, m4 goi1) admission ticket please, 門票,唔該(mun4 piu3, m4 goi1) admission ticket please.
